Meet Rebeca J., a true example of resilience and determination. Despite facing personal challenges, Rebeca has transformed her life and embarked on a path of growth and success. We are thrilled to share her inspiring story with you!

Rebeca’s journey began in January 2023 when she was referred to our program. With a history of addiction and some past brushes with the law, Rebeca’s determination to change her life for the better shone through. She spoke highly of her four children, who served as a driving force behind her desire to rebuild her life. Already residing in stable housing for eight months, Rebeca sought our assistance to take the next steps.

Having previously worked as a Cashier at the Salvation Army, Rebeca expressed her aspiration to return to their stores. Our team worked closely with her, creating a new resume and submitting applications. While we faced some initial challenges with follow-through, Rebeca’s commitment to her children’s ultimatum pushed her to seek in-person support from our Employment Services (ES).

In an exciting turn of events, Kroger, a renowned retailer, was opening a new store and hosting a career fair on April 4th, 2023. Determined to seize the opportunity, Rebeca picked up her resume and attended the career fair. As fate would have it, the store manager at The Store, a neighboring establishment, offered her the chance to apply for a position closer to her home. Rebeca immediately shared the news with the ES specialist, who assisted her in applying for the position during her store interview.

While awaiting her background check results, Rebeca’s worries resurfaced due to a previous arrest. However, our ES specialist empowered her with the knowledge and skills to address her background confidently, highlighting her life transformation. Three weeks later, on May 4th, 2023, Rebeca’s excitement reached its peak as she received the call she had been eagerly anticipating—she had secured the job at Kroger! Her training was scheduled to commence on May 6th, 2023.

Amidst her joy, Rebeca had concerns about appropriate work attire. Our team assured her of our pride in her unwavering dedication and promised to support her further. We scheduled an appointment to assist her in acquiring suitable clothing, ensuring she would be prepared for her new role. Rebeca rode the bus to our office, and together we journeyed to the Friendship West Baptist Church Social Services Building.

What happened next was truly heartwarming. Rebeca was met with enthusiastic support from the staff, cheering her on as she carefully chose pants, jeans, tops, personal items, jewelry, shoes, and handbags. Their only request was for Rebeca to continue her successful journey, to keep moving forward, and to share her story to inspire others. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Rebeca couldn’t believe the level of care and attention she received. We assured her that she mattered and encouraged her to maintain her incredible progress.

According to her supervisor, Sarah, at Kroger, Rebeca’s impact has been immediate and impressive. Customers and colleagues alike are already praising her efficiency, engagement, and evident experience in her role. Rebeca is undoubtedly a perfect fit for the job, and Kroger looks forward to a long and fruitful working relationship with her.

Rebeca, your story is one of transformation and triumph. Your resilience serves as an inspiration to us all. Keep up the great work, and continue to embrace the brighter future you have created for yourself. Your success is proof that determination and support can truly make a difference. 💪🌟
